Description

Cable drums stand at work sites beside the track, on loading roads and on flat wagons. The set contains the eight common wooden drums from type 071 (Ø 71 cm) to type 181 (Ø 1.8 m), each empty and wound.

  • Eight types with documented dimensions: flange, core and width from the type table.
  • Empty and wound: wound drums with suggested cable layers.
  • Printed standing like the prototype, with a small flat on the flange.

In the set per scale:

  • Type 071: flange Ø 710 mm, core Ø 355 mm, width 520 mm; H0 Ø 8.16 × 5.98 mm
  • Type 081: flange Ø 800 mm, core Ø 400 mm, width 520 mm; H0 Ø 9.2 × 5.98 mm
  • Type 091: flange Ø 900 mm, core Ø 450 mm, width 690 mm; H0 Ø 10.34 × 7.93 mm
  • Type 101: flange Ø 1000 mm, core Ø 500 mm, width 710 mm; H0 Ø 11.49 × 8.16 mm

Scales: One variant per scale: Z (1:220), N (1:160), TT (1:120) and H0 (1:87). In Z only types 121 to 181, because the flanges of the smaller types would be thinner than 0.5 mm. Each variant contains the single parts and a collection plate with all parts of the scale (3 mm apart).

Dimensions: Prototype dimensions from KTG cable drum table by T.K. Kabel, divided by the scale. Flanges that would be thinner than 0.65 mm to scale are thickened inward to 0.65 mm; the overall width stays to scale. Winding fill (80 %), cable layers and axle bore (Ø 10 cm) are an estimate, not true to the prototype. How accurate it turns out depends on your printer, and our part has not been tested on a layout yet. Print the free check gauge first to see in advance whether clearance and distances suit your setup.

Material: Resin recommended, the parts are small to scale; the stated print time and resin amount are an estimate for resin at 0.05 mm layers on a common MSLA printer. In H0 and TT, FDM in PLA with a 0.2 mm nozzle and 0.08 mm layers also works. With resin: wear gloves, follow the resin manufacturer's instructions and cure the parts fully.

Material and temperature

PLA is enough for gauges and structural parts (0.4 mm nozzle). For small details use resin or a 0.2 mm nozzle. With resin: wear gloves, follow the resin manufacturer's instructions and cure the parts fully.

Print orientation: Resin: tilted by about 30–45° on light supports. FDM: Standing on the flange rim.

Printing

  1. Resin, 0.05 mm layers: tilt the single parts by about 30–45° in the resin slicer and add light supports, on undersides and backs rather than visible faces.
  2. After printing, wash the parts (cleaner as specified by the resin manufacturer), remove the supports and post-cure them fully under UV light.
  3. FDM (H0, TT): PLA, 0.2 mm nozzle, 0.08 mm layers, no supports, as the files are laid out.
