Take part: measure your car and get the file free

How does it work?

Your car is missing? Measure it with our guide and send 2–3 photos. If we build a part from it, you get the file free and are the first to have it. There is no obligation: no prize draw, no money, and nothing lost if no part can be built from the measurements.

How to measure

  • All dimensions in millimetres, ideally to 0.5 mm. Measure each one twice.
  • Photos straight at the opening, with a ruler flat in the same plane in the picture. That lets us check dimensions on the photo.
  • Take the original insert (ashtray, cup, radio) out first if that works without tools. Do not force anything.
  • Model, year and, if known, trim or steering side matter.

Guides by mounting spot

Ashtray or compartment

  1. Opening width, inside
  2. Opening height, inside
  3. Depth to the back wall or the first obstacle
  4. Position and size of catches or clips (distance from the front edge)
  5. Clearance at the front up to the gear lever or controls

Tool: Calipers (inside jaws and depth rod); a ruler is enough for the clearance.

Photo: One photo straight at the empty opening, ruler level right at the edge. A second one at an angle from above into the compartment.

DIN slot (radio)

  1. Width inside (single-DIN is usually about 180 mm, please measure anyway)
  2. Height inside (single-DIN usually about 50 mm, double-DIN about 100 mm)
  3. Usable depth up to plugs, brackets or cables
  4. Position of the retaining clips or release slots
  5. Outer size of the trim opening, if the trim is larger than the slot

Tool: Calipers for width and height, depth rod or folding rule for the depth.

Photo: Straight at the empty slot with a ruler at the bottom edge, plus one photo into the slot.

Coin tray or storage tray

  1. Length at the top
  2. Width at the top
  3. Width at the bottom (if the walls slope)
  4. Depth
  5. Corner radius, estimated (e.g. compare with a coin)
  6. Catches, rubber mat or lid, if present

Tool: Calipers or a ruler; the depth rod for the depth.

Photo: Straight down from above, ruler lengthwise on the rim. A second photo from the side if the walls slope.

Air vent

  1. Diameter (round vent) or width × height (rectangular vent), outside
  2. Thickness of one slat
  3. Gap between two slats
  4. Depth from the front edge to the slats
  5. Distance to switches or the next vent

Tool: Calipers; the slat thickness with the outside jaws.

Photo: Straight at the vent with a ruler below it, plus a close-up of one slat with the calipers on it.

Send measurements and photos

Cupholder

  1. Diameter at the top
  2. Diameter at the bottom (many cupholders taper slightly)
  3. Depth
  4. Position and width of notches, ribs or spring tabs
  5. With two holders: distance centre to centre

Tool: Calipers (inside jaws) or a ruler across the opening; depth rod for the depth.

Photo: Straight down from above with a ruler across the opening, plus a photo from the side into the holder.
