Description

At goods yards a loading gauge hangs over the track: a loaded wagon passes underneath, and whatever touches it sticks out beyond the permitted size. This portal does the same on the layout: the bow shows the vehicle envelope, posts and beam stay outside the clearance.

  • Bow to the vehicle standard: sides at the largest vehicle width, at the top the roof slope up to the largest height (H0 40 × 55 mm).
  • Portal outside the clearance: posts 1 mm beyond the largest clearance width, beam 1 mm above the clearance height.
  • One flat plate, printed without supports; no lettering.

In the set per scale:

  • Z: bow 17 mm wide, lower edge at the top 22 mm above rail top; portal inside 22 × 24 mm
  • N: bow 23 mm wide, lower edge at the top 30 mm above rail top; portal inside 29 × 32 mm
  • TT: bow 30 mm wide, lower edge at the top 40 mm above rail top; portal inside 38 × 42 mm
  • H0: bow 40 mm wide, lower edge at the top 55 mm above rail top; portal inside 50 × 58 mm

Scales: One variant per scale: Z (1:220), N (1:160), TT (1:120) and H0 (1:87).

Dimensions: Dimensions taken from NEM 301 (2024 edition) and NEM 102 (2019 edition). A prototype loading gauge as a portal is not documented; the shape combines the two standards. The foot sits at rail-top level (height offset 0): if your track sits higher than the baseboard, shim both feet by that height, otherwise the bow hangs too low. Post and beam size and how far the bow reaches down are an estimate, not true to the prototype. How accurate it turns out depends on your printer, and our part has not been tested on a layout yet. Print the free check gauge first to see in advance whether clearance and distances suit your setup.

Material: PLA is enough because the layout stays indoors; PETG works too. 0.4 mm nozzle, ideally 0.12 mm layers, no supports.
