VW Polo 6R / 6C (2009–2017): 52 mm gauge pod for a blank switch – no drilling

Description

For the VW Polo 5 (6R and 6C facelift, 2009–2017), including the GTI 1.4 TSI and GTI 1.8 TSI: the pod plugs into a blank switch position below the centre vent and holds one 52 mm gauge – usually boost on the GTI.

• A foot with crush ribs clamps in the blank position like the original cap. Nothing is drilled.
• The gauge sits flush in the pod, held by crush ribs without screws.
• The cable runs through the foot behind the switch strip.
• Variants for 45, 50 and 55 mm gauge depth.
• Prints face-down on the bed: smooth visible side, no supports.

Fitting condition: the pod is 60 × 60 mm and covers both neighbouring positions. It may only sit on a position whose two neighbours are blank caps as well – never over a fitted switch (ESP off, seat heating, start-stop, parking sensors etc. take positions depending on trim). Which trims have three blanks side by side is not sourced: check your own switch strip before buying.

File the crush ribs if needed; too loose: thin felt tape on the foot. Bore +0.4 mm, check with the test ring.

Material and temperature

Shaded location: PETG is sufficient, ASA is the more robust choice. PLA is unsuitable in a car – it starts to soften at about 55–60 °C.

Print orientation: Face (visible side) down on the bed, foot pointing up.

Safety notice

Only fit it if both neighbouring positions are blank caps – never over fitted switches (ESP off, seat heating, start-stop etc.). The pod must not reach up toward the passenger airbag flap and must not cover controls (hazard switch, vent wheel). Check it is secure before driving. Install at your own risk. Never mount in an airbag deployment zone, never cover controls, never restrict the view. Follow the material and temperature advice. Add-ons may affect the type approval of the vehicle (§ 19 StVZO in Germany); keep edges in the head and knee area rounded (UN Regulation No. 21).

Only for switch strips with three blank caps side by side (the chosen position and both neighbours); which trim that is, is not sourced – check first. Blank cap size from Printables 267825 (GPL v3, dimensions only), for 6R/C according to the maker. The pod sits below the centre vent, clear of the passenger airbag flap; curtain airbags (depending on trim) do not affect this position.

Printing

1. Print the tolerance test ring first and test-fit the gauge.
2. Print in PETG or ASA, 0.2 mm layers, 4 walls, 20 % infill, no supports. No PLA.

Installation

1. Check that the cap and both its neighbours are blank caps; then carefully lever out the middle one.
2. Feed the cable through the foot behind the switch strip, press the gauge in from the front.
3. Push the pod straight into the blank position until it sits flush.
