Classic Mini: 52 mm gauge block for the ashtray opening in the crash pad – no drilling

Description

For the classic Mini (Austin, Morris, Rover, Cooper) with the ashtray opening in the middle of the crash pad: the block sits in front of the opening and holds one 52 mm gauge, e.g. oil temperature or oil pressure.

• A foot with four snap tongues latches behind the edge of the opening, crush ribs take up the play. Nothing is drilled.
• The gauge sits flush in the block, held by crush ribs without screws.
• The cable runs through the foot behind the crash pad.
• Variants for 45, 50 and 55 mm gauge depth.
• Prints face-down on the bed: smooth visible side, no supports.

The opening is only about 28 mm tall, so the gauge sits in the block in front of it (95 × 60 mm). Fit: dimensions taken from a freely published blanking plug, our part is not yet tested in a car. Please measure the opening first (about 88 × 28 mm).

File the barbs or crush ribs if needed; too loose: felt tape on the foot. Bore +0.4 mm, check with the test ring.

Material and temperature

Location in direct sun: print in ASA or ABS only. A dashboard reaches about 69 °C on average after one hour in the sun, with peaks up to 89 °C. ASA only softens at around 108 °C and is UV resistant. PETG and PLA will warp here.

Print orientation: Face (visible side) down on the bed, foot pointing up.

Safety notice

The block sits in the middle of the crash pad, clear of the steering wheel, and stands about 5–6 cm into the cabin. It must not cover switches or vents. Check it is secure before driving. Install at your own risk. Never mount in an airbag deployment zone, never cover controls, never restrict the view. Follow the material and temperature advice. Add-ons may affect the type approval of the vehicle (§ 19 StVZO in Germany); keep edges in the head and knee area rounded (UN Regulation No. 21).

Printing

1. Print the tolerance test ring first and test-fit the gauge.
2. Print in PETG, ASA or ABS, 0.2 mm layers, 4 walls, 20 % infill, no supports. No PLA.

Installation

1. Remove the ashtray.
2. Feed the cable through the foot behind the crash pad, press the gauge in from the front.
3. Push the block straight into the opening until the snap tongues latch.
