Description

The pod sticks on top of the dashboard on the driver's side and holds a 52 mm gauge facing the driver.

  • Three tilt angles (60, 75 and 90°) compensate for the slope of the dashboard.
  • The flat bonding area is 60 × 70 mm for double-sided VHB tape. Nothing is drilled.
  • An M3 set screw on the side secures the gauge.
  • The cable runs forward through the hollow stand, e.g. into the gap at the windscreen.
  • Prints without supports.

Important: the top of the dashboard reaches ~89 °C in summer. Use ASA or ABS only.

VHB tape absorbs slight curvature; on strongly curved dashboards add a TPU shim. Bore +0.4 mm, verify with the test ring.

Material and temperature

Location in direct sun: print in ASA or ABS only. A dashboard reaches about 69 °C on average after one hour in the sun, with peaks up to 89 °C. ASA only softens at around 108 °C and is UV resistant. PETG and PLA will warp here.

Print orientation: Front face (toward the windscreen) on the bed, cup pointing up.

Safety notice

Stick it on the driver's side only, never on or in front of the passenger airbag cover. The pod must not block the view through the windscreen or of the speedometer and warning lights. Check it is secure before driving. Install at your own risk. Never mount in an airbag deployment zone, never cover controls, never restrict the view. Follow the material and temperature advice. Add-ons may affect the type approval of the vehicle (§ 19 StVZO in Germany); keep edges in the head and knee area rounded (UN Regulation No. 21).

Not an original part. No affiliation with the vehicle manufacturers named; make and model names only indicate fitment.

You will also need

  • 1 × VHB tape 3M 5952 or similar, 60 × 70 mm
  • 1 × M3 set screw or self-tapping M3 screw, 8–10 mm

Printing

  1. Print the tolerance test ring first and test-fit the gauge.
  2. Print in ASA or ABS (enclosed printer recommended), 0.2 mm layers, 4 walls, 20 % infill, no supports. No PETG and no PLA: the dashboard gets too hot.

Installation

  1. Degrease the dashboard with isopropyl alcohol; on textured plastic apply adhesion promoter (3M Primer 94).
  2. Feed the cable through the stand from the front, insert the gauge, tighten the set screw hand-tight.
  3. Apply the VHB tape to the base, align the pod and press firmly for 30 s. Let it cure for 24 h.

FAQ

Which material should I use for this gauge pod?

Recommended: ASA (alternatively ABS). Location in direct sun: print in ASA or ABS only. A dashboard reaches about 69 °C on average after one hour in the sun, with peaks up to 89 °C. ASA only softens at around 108 °C and is UV resistant. PETG and PLA will warp here.

Do I receive a printed part?

No. You get the print files and print the part yourself or use a print service. We email you the download link.

Does a 60 mm gauge fit?

Yes, in the “60 mm” variants: 60.4 mm bore for gauges with a 60 mm housing (e.g. Defi 60); the front ring rests on the cup rim. Gauges with a 52 mm housing take the 52 mm variant.
