Renault Clio II phase 2 (2001–2006) / RS 172 / RS 182: 52 mm gauge pod for the centre vent – no drilling

Description

For the Renault Clio II phase 2 (2001–2006), including the RS 172 ph2 and RS 182: the pod replaces the driver-side centre vent grille and holds one 52 mm gauge, turned 12° toward the driver – oil pressure, oil temperature or boost right in view.

• Plugs in like the grille, 14 mm deep in the vent opening, held by crush ribs and four guide tabs. Nothing is drilled or cut, fully reversible.
• The gauge sits in front of the vent, not in the air duct: the body protrudes 31, 36 or 41 mm (variants for 45, 50 and 55 mm gauge depth). Only the connectors reach into the vent; there is about 15 mm before the vent housing (derived from the reference, not measured).
• Left-hand drive (left vent) and right-hand drive (right vent) as separate files.
• Prints without supports: bottom edge on the bed, a 45° keel under the cup.

Which Clio?

• Phase 2 (from 2001): the fit dimensions come from a reprinted centre vent grille for a Clio II; our part not yet tested in a car.
• Not for phase 1 (1998–2001, incl. RS 172 ph1): according to Clio forums the louvres are welded in; no removable grille is known.
• That vent is lost; air comes from the other centre vent and the side vents.

File the crush ribs if needed; check the +0.4 mm bore with the test ring.

Material and temperature

Shaded location: PETG is sufficient, ASA is the more robust choice. PLA is unsuitable in a car – it starts to soften at about 55–60 °C.

Print orientation: Bottom edge on the bed, face vertical, the cup lies horizontal on its keel.

Safety notice

Only fit it into the driver-side centre vent. The passenger airbag sits at the top on the passenger side; never move the pod toward it or onto its cover. The hazard switch between the vents must stay easy to reach. Heater air flows behind the vent: use ASA or ABS. Install at your own risk. Never mount in an airbag deployment zone, never cover controls, never restrict the view. Follow the material and temperature advice. Add-ons may affect the type approval of the vehicle (§ 19 StVZO in Germany); keep edges in the head and knee area rounded (UN Regulation No. 21).

Phase 2/3 with a removable centre vent grille only. Phase 1 (1998–2001) reportedly has welded-in louvres and probably does not fit. Fit dimensions from a reprint for a Clio II (phase 2 estimated).

You will also need

• 1 × M3 set screw or self-tapping M3 screw, 8–10 mm

Printing

1. Print the tolerance test ring first and test-fit the gauge.
2. Print in ASA or ABS, 0.2 mm layers, 4 walls, 20 % infill, no supports, bottom edge on the bed. No PLA.

Installation

1. Carefully unclip the driver-side centre vent grille – it breaks easily; keep it for refitting.
2. Remove the radio and route the cables from the vent via the radio slot behind the console.
3. Insert the gauge from the front, tighten the set screw hand-tight.
4. Push the pod straight into the vent opening until the face sits flush.
