Renault Clio II phase 2 (2001–2005) / RS 172 / RS 182: dual 52 mm gauge pod replacing the tray – no drilling

Description

For the Renault Clio II phase 2 (2001–2005), made for the RS 172 Ph2 and RS 182 (incl. Trophy) and every other phase 2 model with the tray in front of the clock/temperature display. The pod replaces the tray and holds two 52 mm gauges tilted 45° toward the driver.

• It clips into the tray opening with spring fingers, like the original. Nothing is drilled.
• The insert is symmetrical and fits either way round; the gauges always face the driver.
• One M3 set screw on the outside of each cup secures the gauges.
• The cables run down through the hollow stands into the dashboard.
• Variants for 45, 50 and 55 mm gauge depth.
• Prints with the cup fronts on the bed, no supports.

Fit: the dimensions come from a freely published insert for a Clio II Ph2 1.5 dCi (2002); our part not yet tested in a car. The dashboard is the same in all phase 2 models. It does not fit phase 1 (up to 2001, incl. RS 172 Ph1).

Note: the gauges stand about 8 cm tall and partly hide the display behind them, depending on seat position.

File the spring fingers if needed; check the +0.4 mm bore with the test ring.

Material and temperature

Shaded location: PETG is sufficient, ASA is the more robust choice. PLA is unsuitable in a car – it starts to soften at about 55–60 °C.

Print orientation: Cup fronts down on the bed; the part then stands at 45°.

Safety notice

The passenger airbag sits in the passenger half under the top cover. The pod stays within the footprint of the centre tray and must not be moved or extended toward the passenger side. Check the view through the windscreen. Install at your own risk. Never mount in an airbag deployment zone, never cover controls, never restrict the view. Follow the material and temperature advice. Add-ons may affect the type approval of the vehicle (§ 19 StVZO in Germany); keep edges in the head and knee area rounded (UN Regulation No. 21).

You will also need

• 2 × M3 set screw or self-tapping M3 screw, 8–10 mm

Printing

1. Print the tolerance test ring first and test-fit a gauge.
2. Print in ASA or ABS (the dashboard top gets hot), 0.2 mm layers, 4 walls, 20 % infill, no supports. Use a brim, as only the cup fronts touch the bed. No PLA.

Installation

1. Carefully lever out the original tray.
2. Feed the cables down through the holes in the insert, fit the gauges, tighten the set screws hand-tight.
3. Press the pod into the opening, gauges toward the driver, until the spring fingers click.
