Fits VW Golf 2 (1983–1992)
VW Golf Mk2 / Jetta Mk2: 52 mm gauge pod in place of the ashtray – slide-in, no drilling
Slides into the centre console ashtray slot in place of the ashtray and holds one 52 mm gauge in front of it, tilted toward the driver.
Description
For the VW Golf Mk2 (19E) and Jetta Mk2 (1G), 1983–1992: pull out the ashtray, slide the insert in – in front of it stands a pod for one 52 mm gauge, e.g. oil temperature, oil pressure or boost on the G60 and turbo diesel.
- The insert runs on the ashtray guide. Nothing is drilled, the ashtray can go back at any time.
- The pod is fixed to the insert from behind with three M3 screws.
- The gauge is tilted 25° toward the driver: variants for left- and right-hand drive.
- The pod stays inside the space of a freely published cup holder for this slot; with it, the author says, nothing gets in the way of shifting and the 12 V socket stays free.
- The cable runs through the hollow stand and a channel into the ashtray slot.
- Both parts print without supports.
The slot is only 38 mm tall at the front, so the gauge sits in front of the console, not in it. Fit: dimensions taken from a freely published cup holder insert, our part is not yet tested in a car.
If the insert binds, open up the slots at the rail ends with a file. Check the +0.4 mm bore with the test ring.

Material and temperature
Shaded location: PETG is sufficient, ASA is the more robust choice. PLA is unsuitable in a car – it starts to soften at about 55–60 °C.
Print orientation: Pod: underside on the bed, cup pointing up at an angle. Insert: front on the bed, rail pointing up.
Safety notice
The pod stands about 9 cm in front of the centre console, no further than the reference cup holder. After fitting, check in every gear that hand and gear lever stay clear and the 12 V socket can be reached. Check it is secure before driving. Install at your own risk. Never mount in an airbag deployment zone, never cover controls, never restrict the view. Follow the material and temperature advice. Add-ons may affect the type approval of the vehicle (§ 19 StVZO in Germany); keep edges in the head and knee area rounded (UN Regulation No. 21).

Dimensions taken from Printables 985783 (CC BY-NC-SA, dimensions only), our part not yet tested in a car. The pod stays inside the space of that reference's large cup; with it, the author says, nothing gets in the way of shifting and the 12 V socket stays free. VW fitted front airbags only from the Golf 3 on; the slot sits in the centre console, clear of the knee and steering wheel zones. Variant, Syncro, Rallye, Country, USA/Mexico 1985–1992 and Jetta Clásico: same ashtray part number 191857961 according to the parts catalogue, not checked on a vehicle. Jetta China (FAW, 1991–2012): same number listed, later consoles may differ, not checked.

FAQ
Which material should I use for this gauge pod?
Recommended: PETG (alternatively ASA, ABS). Shaded location: PETG is sufficient, ASA is the more robust choice. PLA is unsuitable in a car – it starts to soften at about 55–60 °C.
Do 60 mm gauges fit?
Only if the body is 52 mm and just the bezel is larger. The bezel then rests on the front. This pod is not made for gauges with a 60 mm body. If unsure, print the included tolerance test ring.
Do I receive a printed part?
No. You get the print files and print the part yourself or use a print service. You get the download link right after payment.
Why doesn't the gauge sit flush in the slot?
The slot is only 38 mm tall at the front; a 52 mm gauge does not fit inside.
Why does the pod sit left of centre?
It stays inside the space taken by the reference's large cup; only for that space is it documented that the gear lever and the 12 V socket stay clear.
