Description

For the Triumph Spitfire (Mk3, Mk4, 1500) and the TR5/TR6: the pod replaces the ashtray on top of the dashboard and holds one 52 mm gauge, e.g. oil temperature or oil pressure. No hole in the wooden dash.

  • A hollow foot with crush ribs clamps in the ashtray opening, a flange rests on the dash pad. Nothing is drilled, the ashtray can go back at any time.
  • The gauge stands at 75° tilt and is turned 20° toward the driver: variants for right-hand and left-hand drive.
  • The cable runs through the hollow stand and the foot down behind the dashboard.
  • Prints without supports.

Fit: the opening (106.2 × 41 mm) is taken from two freely published ashtray inserts; according to their makers it is the same on the Spitfire, TR5 and TR6. Our part is not yet tested in a car.

File the crush ribs if needed; too loose: add felt tape to the foot. Check the +0.4 mm bore with the test ring.

Material and temperature

Location in direct sun: print in ASA or ABS only. A dashboard reaches about 69 °C on average after one hour in the sun, with peaks up to 89 °C. ASA only softens at around 108 °C and is UV resistant. PETG and PLA will warp here.

Print orientation: Front face on the bed, cup pointing up; flange and foot stand vertical.

Guide: PETG or ASA in a car?

Safety notice

The pod sits centrally on top of the dashboard, clear of the steering wheel; these cars have no airbags. It must not disturb the view through the windscreen – if in doubt choose the 52 mm variant. Use ASA: the dash pad gets hot in the sun. Check it is secure before driving. Install at your own risk. Never mount in an airbag deployment zone, never cover controls, never restrict the view. Follow the material and temperature advice. Add-ons may affect the type approval of the vehicle (§ 19 StVZO in Germany); keep edges in the head and knee area rounded (UN Regulation No. 21).

Not an original part. No affiliation with the vehicle manufacturers named; make and model names only indicate fitment.

Opening 106.2 × 41 × 16 mm taken from Printables 610183 and 1344122 (CC BY-SA, dimensions only), our part not yet tested in a car. Mk3 "might work" according to the maker. No airbags.

Same opening as the Spitfire according to the maker of Printables 1344122 (CC BY-SA, dimensions only); our part not yet tested in a car. TR250 not sourced. No airbags.

FAQ

Which material should I use for this gauge pod?

Recommended: ASA (alternatively ABS, PETG). Location in direct sun: print in ASA or ABS only. A dashboard reaches about 69 °C on average after one hour in the sun, with peaks up to 89 °C. ASA only softens at around 108 °C and is UV resistant. PETG and PLA will warp here.

Do 60 mm gauges fit?

Only if the body is 52 mm and just the bezel is larger. The bezel then rests on the front. This pod is not made for gauges with a 60 mm body. If unsure, print the included tolerance test ring.

Do I receive a printed part?

No. You get the print files and print the part yourself or use a print service. You get the download link right after payment.

Does it fit the Spitfire Mk3 and the TR6 alike?

The opening comes from inserts for the Spitfire Mk4/1500, the same on the TR5/TR6 according to their makers; Mk3 "might work". Our part is not yet tested in a car – please measure the opening before printing (106 × 41 mm).

Can the ashtray go back in?

Yes. The pod only clamps in the opening; pull it out and refit the ashtray.
