Nissan 350Z (Z33, 2003–2005): 52 mm gauge pod for the ashtray well – no drilling

Description

For the Nissan 350Z (Z33) with the pre-facelift centre console (2003–2005), coupé and roadster: the pod plugs into the ashtray well and holds one 52 mm gauge, e.g. oil temperature or oil pressure.

• A U-shaped foot with crush ribs clamps in the well, the base plate rests on top. Nothing is drilled.
• Tilt 30, 45 or 60° toward the driver – the lower the tilt, the more the gauge faces upward.
• The cable runs through the hollow stand and the base plate down into the well.
• Prints without supports.

The well is too narrow for a 52 mm gauge, so it sits above the console and the lid stays out. Facelift console from 2006: not checked.

File the crush ribs if needed; too loose: add felt tape to the foot. Check the +0.4 mm bore with the test ring.

Material and temperature

Shaded location: PETG is sufficient, ASA is the more robust choice. PLA is unsuitable in a car – it starts to soften at about 55–60 °C.

Print orientation: Front face on the bed, cup pointing up; the foot lies on the bed as well.

Safety notice

The pod sits in the lower centre console, clear of the airbag zones. It must not obstruct the gear lever, handbrake or cup holder – after fitting, check in every gear and with the handbrake pulled. Install at your own risk. Never mount in an airbag deployment zone, never cover controls, never restrict the view. Follow the material and temperature advice. Add-ons may affect the type approval of the vehicle (§ 19 StVZO in Germany); keep edges in the head and knee area rounded (UN Regulation No. 21).

Well size 36 × 92 × 47 mm taken from a replacement box (Printables 1340390, CC0), our part not yet tested in a car. That the long side runs fore-aft is assumed. Facelift from 2006 not checked.

You will also need

• 1 × M3 set screw or self-tapping M3 screw, 8–10 mm

Printing

1. Print the tolerance test ring first and test-fit the gauge.
2. Print in ASA, ABS or PETG, 0.2 mm layers, 4 walls, 20 % infill, no supports. No PLA.

Installation

1. Remove the ashtray lid and insert.
2. Feed the cable from the top through the stand and base plate into the well, insert the gauge, tighten the set screw hand-tight.
3. Press the pod into the well with the gauge facing the driver.
