Mazda MX-5 NA / Miata / Eunos (1989–1997): 52 mm gauge pod for the ashtray position – no drilling

Description

For the Mazda MX-5 / Miata / Eunos Roadster NA (1989–1997): the pod replaces the ashtray behind the gear lever with a cover plate and holds one 52 mm gauge – oil pressure, oil temperature or boost on a turbo build.

• A U-shaped foot with crush ribs clamps in the well, the base plate rests on top. Nothing is drilled.
• Tilt 30, 45 or 60° toward the driver.
• The cable runs through the hollow stand and the base plate down into the well.
• The plate clamps with two legs like the original cup holder. Nothing is drilled.
• Prints without supports.

Clip legs untested: check the hold before driving, file them or add felt tape if needed. Check the +0.4 mm bore with the test ring.

Material and temperature

Shaded location: PETG is sufficient, ASA is the more robust choice. PLA is unsuitable in a car – it starts to soften at about 55–60 °C.

Safety notice

The pod sits in the centre console clear of the airbag zones. It must not obstruct the gear lever, handbrake or cup holder – check in every gear. Install at your own risk. Never mount in an airbag deployment zone, never cover controls, never restrict the view. Follow the material and temperature advice. Add-ons may affect the type approval of the vehicle (§ 19 StVZO in Germany); keep edges in the head and knee area rounded (UN Regulation No. 21).

Plate size and clip leg position from two cup holder conversions (Printables 466618 and 383988, CC BY-NC). The clip legs are our own design and not yet tested in a car; the hook of the reference is not copied. • 1 × M3 set screw or self-tapping M3 screw, 8–10 mm

Printing

1. Print the tolerance test ring first and test-fit the gauge.
2. Print in ASA, ABS or PETG, 0.2 mm layers, 4 walls, 20 % infill, no supports. No PLA.

Installation

1. Remove the ashtray.
2. Feed the cable from the top through the stand and base plate into the well, insert the gauge, tighten the set screw hand-tight.
3. Fit the plate with the gauge facing the driver until the legs clamp.
