Single DIN blank with storage pocket – universal (ISO 7736), no drilling

Description

After moving to a double-DIN head unit or a hidden radio, an empty single-DIN slot is often left. This blank fits any single-DIN slot to ISO 7736 and turns it into a storage pocket.

• The whole inside is pocket: 173 × 45 mm opening, 60 mm deep at the bottom (variants 50 and 75 mm).
• The back wall is sloped at 45°: deep at the bottom, shallow at the top, so things slide back instead of out.
• A 6 mm lip at the bottom front holds coins and keys.
• The sleeve clamps into the DIN cage with crush ribs. Nothing is drilled.
• Prints face-down on the bed: smooth visible side, no supports.

Tip: put a non-slip mat (e.g. cut to 170 × 60 mm) on the bottom.

Crush ribs absorb cage tolerances.

Material and temperature

Shaded location: PETG is sufficient, ASA is the more robust choice. PLA is unsuitable in a car – it starts to soften at about 55–60 °C.

Print orientation: Faceplate down on the bed, sleeve pointing up.

Do not put heavy or loose objects in the pocket that could fly out under hard braking. Install at your own risk. Never mount in an airbag deployment zone, never cover controls, never restrict the view. Follow the material and temperature advice. Add-ons may affect the type approval of the vehicle (§ 19 StVZO in Germany); keep edges in the head and knee area rounded (UN Regulation No. 21).

Printing

1. Print in PETG or ASA, 0.2 mm layers, 3 walls, 15 % infill, no supports. No PLA.

Installation

1. Remove the old blank or radio; the DIN cage stays in the car.
2. Push the blank straight into the DIN cage until the faceplate sits flush.
