Gauge pods and airbags: where can a gauge go?
Can I mount a gauge pod on the A-pillar?
Only if the car has no curtain or A-pillar airbag – true for many classic and youngtimer cars. In newer cars the curtain airbag deploys along the A-pillar; a pod there can become a projectile. We therefore only offer A-pillar pods for models and years without that airbag.
Safety per car, not as a blanket rule
A blanket ban on A-pillar pods would exclude many classics that never had a curtain airbag. We decide for each model and model year individually and put the years in the title.
Basic rules
- Never in an airbag deployment zone (curtain, knee, passenger).
- Never cover controls or restrict the view.
- No parts for the engine bay, pressurised lines or the exterior.
- Install at your own risk; follow the material and temperature advice.
FAQ
Which airbags do you check?
For every model and year: curtain/A-pillar airbag, knee airbag and passenger airbag. The mounting location must not be in any deployment zone.
Does a gauge pod need type approval?
That depends on the part and how it is installed. Interior holders that do not affect the view, controls or safety equipment are usually uncritical; if in doubt, ask your local vehicle inspection body first. We do not offer exterior, engine bay or pressurised parts.
