Description

For the Mercedes-Benz W123 (1976–1986), e.g. the 300D/300TD turbo diesel: the plate holds one or two 52 mm gauges (boost, exhaust gas temperature) flush in the ashtray space below the radio.

  • Fits the box of the free ashtray replacement "W123 Mercedes Ashtray Replacement" (Printables 1584218, CC0, free). Please download the box there and print it as well.
  • Like its plates it holds with three legs and 7 mm magnets on the bosses in the box and pulls off.
  • The gauges sit flush, held by crush ribs without screws. Nothing sticks out, the automatic selector gate stays free.
  • Housings and connectors sit inside the box; the cables leave at the back, e.g. to the lighter harness.
  • Prints face-down on the bed: smooth visible side, no supports.

Fit: dimensions taken from the freely published ashtray replacement, our part is not yet tested in a car.

If the plate binds, sand the edges lightly. Check the +0.4 mm bore with the test ring.

Material and temperature

Shaded location: PETG is sufficient, ASA is the more robust choice. PLA is unsuitable in a car – it starts to soften at about 55–60 °C.

Print orientation: Face (visible side) down on the bed, tubes and legs pointing up.

Guide: PETG or ASA in a car?

Safety notice

The plate sits flush in the centre console and does not stick out. Check that it is held firmly by the magnets before driving. Install at your own risk. Never mount in an airbag deployment zone, never cover controls, never restrict the view. Follow the material and temperature advice. Add-ons may affect the type approval of the vehicle (§ 19 StVZO in Germany); keep edges in the head and knee area rounded (UN Regulation No. 21).

Not an original part. No affiliation with the vehicle manufacturers named; make and model names only indicate fitment.

Dimensions taken from Printables 1584218 (CC0), our part not yet tested in a car. The plate fits the box of that free ashtray replacement, not the original ashtray directly. The face is flush, the automatic selector gate below stays free. Airbag (optional from 1982, steering wheel only) not affected.

FAQ

Which material should I use for this gauge panel?

Recommended: PETG (alternatively ASA, ABS). Shaded location: PETG is sufficient, ASA is the more robust choice. PLA is unsuitable in a car – it starts to soften at about 55–60 °C.

Do 60 mm gauges fit?

Only if the body is 52 mm and just the bezel is larger. The bezel then rests on the front; with several gauges side by side their spacing limits the bezel (see the bezel question below). This pod is not made for gauges with a 60 mm body. If unsure, print the included tolerance test ring.

Do I receive a printed part?

No. You get the print files and print the part yourself or use a print service. You get the download link right after payment.

How large may the gauges' front ring be?

At most Ø 58 mm per gauge: that is the spacing between the gauges. A Defi 52 with its 58.3 mm ring does not fit side by side.

Does the plate fit the original ashtray?

No, it is made for the box of the free ashtray replacement (Printables 1584218), which replaces the ashtray.

How deep may the gauges be?

The box is about 56 mm deep and open at the back; housing and connectors may stick out at the back.
